A NATIONAL welfare card that will allow the Government to control payments to negligent parents across the country will be unveiled in Tuesday’s budget.

The debit card - to be introduced in selected indigenous communities before being rolled out across Australia - will ensure half of the cardholders’ welfare payments are spent on approved goods and services, such as food and clothing for their children, rather than wasted on alcohol and drugs. source

On some level it seems like a good idea to assure the needy especially the children get the services we as a society have allotted them.

Bush vows more sanctions on Syria

US President Bush has vowed to extend sanctions against Syria claiming that the country is engaged in construction of a nuclear facility.

This seems stupid to me. It is also somewhat a grand curiosity. Lately much has been said of the potential Syria/Israel peace talks. If we’re so tight with Israel what’s up with this ? Israel attacked either a chemical or nuclear site. The US trumps the incident. There is also serious questions that a separate incident involving a Syrian SCUD C missile and Iranian techs arming it with a chemical warhead had an accident. The techs are allegedly dead. PressTV
