PressTV and those funny Iranian statesmen…

He concluded by saying that the respect afforded the Islamic Republic of Iran by the nations of the world is a function of its persistence in adopting and pursuing independent policies. Director-General of Iran’s Inter-Parliamentary Group, Mohsen Yahyavi in South Africa

The funny thing is the truth…There are nations that fear the destabilizing effect Iran has through supporting terrorists and opposition parties. Other nations are so addicted to that oil and gas the Iranians have they give out respect and money and weapons etc.. I’ll throw a tiny bone Tehran’s way. There are those that see in Iran a chance to get along and it is with this group that the actions of Iran will be tested. The Iranians will have to step up to a non rhetoric level of statesmanship if they are to truly earn anyone’s honest respect.

    Hi Grit

You got it. Seems there was also a rather large find in Montana and a few surrounding States. So as your examples indicate oil is a plentiful resource if only the politicians and those with socialist ambitions would get out of the way. I suspect a not-so-gentle nudge is in order.

As far as the governments cut, it appears that they are already receiving about twice as much profit via taxes than the oil companies. I’d say that the politicians claiming that the evil oil companies are involved in price gouging are themselves participating in a bit of skulduggery.

    Hi i2tf

Drilling for oil at Gitmo… that sound promising. I hear labor can be found fairly quickly. It might even be the only productive and honest days work some have ever done.

Grit.. Thanks for stopping by. It is my understanding that the Cuba oil situation is yet another blessing from the Carter Administration. Something about 45 mile 50% 50% bs. I say we map a pipe off of Gitmo.
Some of the EU countries are engaging the Muslim populations but you’re right they are poorly integrated. Also it has to be said Europe has as good a history of anti Semitism as anywhere. I’m still of the school that the fuel and Euro opps are the prevailing driver in their positions.
I’m trying to find the linkage but on your last. Yeah the population and domestic issues make for a potential Ceausecu situation. However the missing linkage and I’ll try to find it honest, shows there is a lot of support both for the government and some outreach to the USA. So they like the sabre rattling and nuke stuff but are open to getting a better relation with US and US specifically. I’m gooing to try to stay optimistic too.

    Hi LC,

You mean oil reserves like the large deposit between Cuba and Florida that the Chinese are about to tap while our Government insists our oil companies might cause a spill and pollute the pristine waters off our coast? Or the one up in Alaska where drilling might scare the reindeer? I begin to suspect that individual members of Congress are holding out for a cut under the table.

    Hi i,

Another reason for EU attitude on anti-Israel positions is, as I understand it, the masses of Muslims they’ve allowed to immigrate without bothering to integrate them into their societies. Remember the Muslim riots in France not too long ago, or the trouble those cartoons of Mohamed caused? The rest of Europe has similar problems and I find it reasonable, although a bit cowardly, that their politicians don’t want to upset this large and violent minority population.

As to Iran, I really suspect they aren’t as dangerous as is most often assumed. Given the trouble and internal upheaval they’ve seen in recent decades, my take is that their leaders are scared and trying to look tough to anyone who might possibly invade and are also using all the anti-Jew rhetoric to distract their population from focusing on how poorly the country is being run. Keeping in mind that the average age of their citizens is well under 30 and not all that happy with the Government oppression they life with, it seems reasonable that they don’t dare make more than a token attack on Israel, or they’d risk loosing their propaganda foil and would be looking at another revolution soon after. While Muslims seem to have no problem with incredible violence, some of them aren’t so stupid as to cut off their nose to spite their face. As you can probably tell, I’m feeling quite optimistic today :)

I’d put it to you LC that Europe is totally addicted. Although France has a lot of nuke power Europe relies heavily on Russia and the Mid. East for the fossils. I’d follow that the desire nay the need of European companies like Total to get in on contracts in the M.E. are driving factors. I think it for reasons like these that the Europeans are more open (bent over ?) to positions critical of Israel.
I think that is one of the reasons the US takes the positions it does as opposed to us being under the control of zionist masters. We have Canada,Mexico,Venezuela and our own fossil sources.
    thanks for stopping by.

Anyone looking objectively at Iran must conclude that it is slowly strengthening itself for the purpose of wiping out Israel. Ahmadinejad is meticulously taking steps to fulfill his perceived religious mission and rejoices with each victory.

I’m not sure any nation is “addicted” to oil and gas. It just happens to be one of the abundant resources we are fortunate enough to have in this age that makes our life more comfortable. Many of the political and economic problems the politicians have created can be solved by drilling and refining our own oil.
