Final Frays ?
I’ve faced this dilemma twice in the just shy of a year I’ve had In2thefray. The previous times were 1 serious and 1 passing thought that blogging wasn’t a long term thing. This time it’s more of a complete lack of having the motivation and attention span to do it. I’ve been blessed and cursed with people that have added to the “2″ in the tag line and provided advice, opinion and insightful conversation. I’ve enjoyed it immensely. Do I need some time off ? Do I need to pick a specific topic area ? Do I need to pack it in ? I don’t know the answer anymore than I expect any answers to be forthcoming. I do know I’ve put more of myself into the blog and blogosphere than I ever imagined I would when I started. I also know the feelings I’m having are not the exception.
Health Care…

An analysis of Islam I agree with hence I can’t get into the whole scaremongering, chicken little all Muslims are terrorists,it’s the end of the world Islamophobe thing.
What I think these young Muslim prisoners demonstrate is that the rigidity of the traditional code by which their parents live, with its universalist pretensions and emphasis on outward conformity to them, is all or nothing; when it dissolves, it dissolves completely and leaves nothing in its place. The young Muslims then have little defense against the egotistical licentiousness they see about them and that they all too understandably take to be the summum bonum of Western life.
Observing this, of course, there are among Muslim youth a tiny minority who reject this absorption into the white lumpenproletariat and turn militant or fundamentalist. It is their perhaps natural, or at least understandable, reaction to the failure of our society, kowtowing to absurd and dishonest multiculturalist pieties, to induct them into the best of Western culture: into that spirit of free inquiry and personal freedom that has so transformed the life chances of every person in the world, whether he knows it or not.
Islam in the modern world is weak and brittle, not strong: that accounts for its so frequent shrillness. The Shah will, sooner or later, triumph over the Ayatollah in Iran, because human nature decrees it, though meanwhile millions of lives will have been ruined and impoverished. The Iranian refugees who have flooded into the West are fleeing Islam, not seeking to extend its dominion, as I know from speaking to many in my city. To be sure, fundamentalist Islam will be very dangerous for some time to come, and all of us, after all, live only in the short term; but ultimately the fate of the Church of England awaits it. Its melancholy, withdrawing roar may well (unlike that of the Church of England) be not just long but bloody, but withdraw it will. The fanatics and the bombers do not represent a resurgence of unreformed, fundamentalist Islam, but its death rattle. Theodore Dalrymple
Speaking of Islam I wanted to do a real post on the “Overwhelming number of Europeans fear Muslims…” “poll” story that blazed the blogosphere. It’s a non story that the one “newspaper” the UK’s Express reported on was no report at all. They left out how the “author” wasn’t and no longer holds the legitimizing position they parade. The report of over 150 + pages had on page 139 the “poll” The numbers regarding Europeans were overwhelming negative. The full story is the US,Israel and most of the Muslim world have far different and far more positive numbers. The world is not falling folks. Be alert, report suspicious activity and know this. There are any number of people of the Islamic faith that are pulling for you and me to succeed in the pursuit of life, liberty and happiness. WEF report available as a pdf here
Barak Obama the next JFK
I didn’t think much of the first one. I will grant there are a number of similarities and they’re not good ones. I’m also sick of the media making the coincidental connections. JFK helped a Kenyan student come to America. Guess who ? Yeah BO’s dad. Barak Obama’s assigned desk in the Senate. Has JFK’s initials in it-why ? apparently it was his. Anyone remember all the coincidental conspiracies links of JFK and Lincoln ? Wow eerie BO is from Illinois. JFK 1960 campaign, lot’s of hope no real results unless you think space race,Cuban missile crisis and Vietnam were where the hopeful progressives care to revisit. John McCain: Liar and so much more
I can’t take it anymore. I try to post on it and the rage is crippling. He is smug and arrogant. He thinks he is owed the Presidency. He is absolutely not a conservative regardless of any rating system. His positions with Feingold,Kennedy, taxes, tax cuts, judges of the past 2 years alone wipe out any votes he has hung his hat on. We also can’t forget the lying. If he lies like this now how can anyone give him the job ? He is also an old, crusty bitter pill and I refuse to take my medicine. I’ll just Kevorkian and go with the (D).

InToTheFray – on a completely personal aside – I’ve posted on the Towelian disappearance on ‘Where have they gone’ – if you want to have a look at it – think trying to find out what’s happened – I’d be thankful for your input/thoughts but I know this is utterly unrelated to you as an issue…
I don’t know anybody else from there that I know from elsewhere save you – so this might be sad but then again depending on why they’ve disappeared, it could be serious…
I think about this all the time. You really got to be careful that blogging doesn’t cost you anything in your real life. Your personal relationships can certainly suffer. Mine have. I suppose it’s a safer pastime than things that involve drinking and gambling or other vices, but sometimes I think that I should put myself on some sort of schedule.
What can I say though? I’m addicted. Why? Beats the hell out of me. Maybe it’s the idea that this medium gives me a voice to relay my thoughts to the entire world, and I find that simply irresistible. But at the end of the day, I try to keep in perspective that all we’re really doing is communicating to nameless, faceless entities on the other end of a computer. It’s still fascinating though, and somehow I still find if fulfilling. Does that make me a complete loser? Who knows.
I also wonder about the real hardcore bloggers out there. Your Charles Johnsons, Digbys, Allahpundits, et al…seriously, do they get out at all?
Anyway, I wasn’t planning on quitting anytime soon, and I hope you don’t either. There’s nothing wrong with taking a break periodically though. There is a real world out there, after all.
I am having similar thoughts after the Christmas holiday. I hope you recharge your enthusiasm because although we don’t often agree, I like reading you’re insights.
Woohoo! We’ve missed you, buddy.
No Patriots. No Mitt Romney as our candidate. Ditto that.
I’m baaaacckk !!!!!!! And I’m kinda pissed.
I’m building up my “bloggables”. I know Sal went into semi retirement I haven’t checked otherwise.
p.s seems I’m either blocked or they’re gone
InToTheFray – I’m glad you’re thinking of staying with us – but wish that it’s not just because we’ve dragged you back…
On another note – do you know what’s happened to those Towelians?
I’m having thoughts akin to the line in the Godfather movie. “Every time I try to get away they drag me back in.”(or something like that) The Patriots loss on Sunday and the near certainty of a McCain win on Tues. rivals with the headlines in my heart and continues to build up the bile that must be expunged.
Most blogs don’t die… they just quietly fade away. First comes the initial rush of blogging and discovering that there really IS someone out there who cares what you think. But somewhere along the line blogging starts to seem like a second (or third) job.
I’ve been posting less because of some things happening in my personal life. It’s funny that you wrote about possibly giving it up; I’ve had the same thoughts over the past week.
I vote that you should stick around!
Hey buddy..I plan to call it quits every day if thats any consolation!..ha..
Do whats best for YOU!
Dahlin, you’re speaking to my Massachusetts roots!
Go Patriots! Go Romney!
Aside from the occasional off-hand remark, HaP has been an election-free zone. I’m so sick of hearing about the thing, I just post on other stuff… or nothing at all. (Expect to see lots of fluff in coming weeks.
)
You are all too kind. Know I really need a break and that the post, it’s title, etc. are not a means to pimp traffic.
theo much like you say I see something or hear something and much like Ryan alludes need a cathartic outlet. The problem is I can’t believe the rage inside over some of the things so I pull the reins as to avoid posting vitriol. (McCain,BBC explaining where the hurricanes that wwere supposed to come didn’t btw it’s still GW,Arlen “magic bullet” Specter ranting about Patriots tapes uuuggghhhh!!!)
I think post Super Bowl and Super Tues. I can breath and think clearer and form the other side of a dialogue again.
Everyone have a great weekend. I hope your team wins on Sunday especially if your team is the Pats. I hope your candidate wins on Tuesday especially if it’s Romney or Obama. On a concilitive note I hope at least on the GOP side some true democracy is seen and heard.
Oh, please stay!
I did not know that blogging would take up this much of my life, either. It’s been an experience.
That all said, you can take a break… recharge, rejuvinate, and find yourself where we all find ourselves: staring at some news article and shouting at the paper while our families roll their eyes. Then you know that it’s time to blog again.
I’m with Ryan, it would be sad to lose your point of view.
At the same time, you have to live your life. Take care.
I know how you feel… Sometimes it feels more like a job than a hobby and you question why you put so much into it.
Personally, I find it cathartic though. I think I would go nuts if I didn’t have this outlet. It’s sometimes just peace of mind for me to know that I can sit down and let it all out when I feel like my head is getting ready to blow off my shoulders… And better yet, I will have people to either talk to, argue with or just show general support.
TO each their own, however, and you can’t let it eat you up.
It would be a sad say to see you go, though.
Hang in there. I know I have had a couple of times also when I question why I am doing this, but after a day or two I am ready to get back on the horse.
Massachusetts needs you and others like you.
GO PATS!
Kidding with the porn reference… no offense
Well, from time to time we all should realise our need to figure out our priorities and the difference between them and our lives…
That which you decide is not for us to influence. Either way it’s been – or will continue to be – good to have a different point of view from someone who thinks and cares.
I don’t do porn. I’ll make my decision on a great number of things sometimes next week. I need to get through the Super Bowl,Super Tuesday, and a few more days….watch out for the rotties TRM
Callin it quits? I’m sometimes torn between blogging and porn… is fray choosing the later??
