Personally, I think it’s a non issue. I’m all for pride in one’s culture – but I will not stand for that pride to be acceptable in one light but not another. The question as presented about attending a “white” church is an interesting one, because it exemplifies the annoying disparity in America right now. Any association with the words “white” and “pride” in it is bad. Real bad. Like, so bad you don’t want to even joke about it. Yet, “black” and “pride” is acceptable and it is bad – real bad – to criticize it.
If Obama wants to have a little pride, that’s great so long as he (or anybody he associates with) finds it unacceptable for whites to have pride as well. Since I doubt that is how it works, I default to not accepting Obama’s past associations with black pride organizations – even if it was just a church,
@ Wickle…Thanks for the NH perspective. I don’t look forward to the pollsters in Feb.
The questions aren’t worth asking anymore.
True especially given the nature of the desired answers.
@ Elric…
Would you belong to a church that preached “white values” ,”White work ethic”, “White community” etc?
1. Would you ? If you ask questions you in a forum you should pony up an answer. 2. There is something to be said of the black experience in America. On one hand it is sad that the idea of black nationalism, separatist, or pride are morphed into some synonymous jumble. I would rather a country without hyphens. Some communities such as the black community in light of history etc. have a stake in identifying problems and solutions themselves.Ergo the “black” version of the comments you made.
3. With my black and white referee shirt on…no pun intended. the comment by wickle -”Either show me some evidence of his separatist activities, or anything that he’s actually done wrong, or give it a rest.” is a sound one relative to the thread.
Elric, the world doesn’t need a white version of Al Sharpton. As I said … he has a public record. Either show me some evidence of his separatist activities, or anything that he’s actually done wrong, or give it a rest.
Well, if I can bring the conversation back to NH, rather than racism … NH is notoriously hard to poll, but the pollsters tend not to remember that.
40% of the state’s voters are registered Undeclared. We (I’m one of them) can vote in the GOP or Dem primary. When they say “likely Democrat/Republican voters,” it’s all guesswork.
I had phone surveys asking me about the Democratic primary, even after answering how likely I was to vote in it with “No chance in hell.” I then tended to say that I’d vote for Gravel or Kucinich, depending on what mood I was in.
I’m afraid that NC is right about the independence of our votes, though … we handed a bunch of establishment people the votes, which is sad. I blame the transplants from MA, but I don’t think that they number enough to have done the whole thing.
As for Obama’s church — it might raise some questions, except that he has a public record! The same kind of thing goes for Romney about the race policies of the LDS — he has a business and government record, and is clearly not a racist. Or Huckabee and Creation — in ten years as governor, he never tried to stop schools from teaching about evolution. The questions aren’t worth asking anymore.
So you are saying its ok to belong to a white supremasist church as long as you dont enact on those beliefs? Please. Ed. says: I’m saying there’s a difference between Afro-centric sociology and black supremacist hate/racism. The UCC is more the former.
Not really. I judge Islam on its own merits. If you care to quote me on something I said about Islam that isnt true, feel free to prove me wrong. Ed. says: I don’t know to whom this comment is directed.
The church Obama attends/is a member of isn’t necessarily the keeper of all values Barack Obama holds and vice versa.Obama has been forced/seen fit to distance himself. Barack also had to deal with the whole madrassa/radical Muslim controversy. I’d like to state clearly that race baiting against Obama for the perceived/real actions of the UCC in Chicago is morally wrong.People are pursuing this for all the wrong reasons. Notice how they don’t give kudos to Barack that his church helps inner city kids etc ? I would further state that falling into the trap of attacking a (any) candidate for his faith or church attendance drops you right into the hands of some people playing a dangerous and sick game. It puts you in a position to ask a question that even if you don’t mean it plays to any number of isms In a final note of disclosure. I have a copy of the “Black Value System” on my hard drive and have visited the churches website. I personally disagree with their positions but haven’t seen how Obama has ever officially enacted the church teachings.
And speaking of Chris Mathews…How the hell does one condemn the racists of Boston, who btw weren’t allowed to vote or likely polled in the NEW HAMPSHIRE PRIMARY, by saying “You remember the Lone Ranger and Tonto? I think paleface speak with forked tongue. You hear me? Forked tongue”…. You fat lily white hump for the Left. Tonto ? What are you implying ? Your racism !
CZ: I hate polls myself. I’m looking at my notepad and it’s full of links and notes re: this election. I’m not a Dem but if I was and I lived in Michigan I’d be pretty bent. I also think it’s not limited to those that suffer BDS to think the election system is screwed up. The thought that Dems can impact the GOP primary in Michigan is pissing me off. Elections are too important to America to allow polls and parties to manipulate we the people.
I think what might have happened was a poll/media whammy. There was just enough Obama voters who saw those late polls showing a double-digit lead for Barack and stayed home because they thought it was in the bag. That, and Hillary cried. Maybe it was just that simple.
People should ignore those polls, and refuse to partake in them IMO.
This is also a church that honored Farakhan last month.

Would I? Hell no. Wow, that was an easy question to answer.
Seems no one else can answer such a simple question. Hmmmmmmm…..

You take their charter and you replaced black with white, people would call it the Ayran nation.

Elric,
“Libs tend to be the biggest racists and bigots of them all.”
ROTFLMAO!
You do realize that your statement smacks of bigory, right?

Romney has been grilled over his religion but no one has challenged Obama and his church. Who by the way honored Farakhan last month.

“To Elric66–It’s only racism when one insults or disses every other race BUT white!”
Too true.
Bchboy1,
Just take a look at the black supremasist he belongs to. Yeah he denies it.
I think what might have happened was a poll/media whammy. There was just enough Obama voters who saw those late polls showing a double-digit lead for Barack and stayed home because they thought it was in the bag. That, and Hillary cried. Maybe it was just that simple.

I don’t think Obama denies being of white heritage…but I believe some would want him to ignore it.(shades of Tiger Woods)
LOL! That’s a pretty funny poster! I also did a post on the so called “independent” thought of New Hampshirites!
Yeah, whatever!
Ed says..Threw a ping link in for you
To Elric66–It’s only racism when one insults or disses every other race BUT white!
Obama is half balck, half white. Isnt it racist to ignore the white side of his heritage?
On the GOP side…Ironically just in case anyone cares Mitt has the most delegates.
